On Friday I sat down with one of the four partners, Nick, of the new store “The Meat Board” on the north side of Camp Bowie between Ridglea and Fairfield. Before we took a seat over at the half-bar on the right side of the shop, I had a chance to stroll around and look at the goods offered for purchase as well as the layout of the store within. What a great spot! Friendly people, great vibe, and the cuts of meat truly looked worthy of a place on the grates of a Fort Worth grill or smoker.
Navigating the permitting process throughout last year, the four partners opened their doors on New Years Eve a few weeks ago (2019) and have been open ever since. The store was packed and it looks to me like they were able to tap into latent demand on this side of town for a premium steak & provisions store. Nick said one of their goals was to create a one-stop-shop for locals to swing through on a Friday after work and grab high quality cuts of meat, any oils/spices/sauces necessary, paired wine, and even side dishes that they prepare daily. The side dishes include salads, mac & cheese, and more – all prepared fresh every day. Drop in after work and head directly home to enjoy quality meat, great sides, and a glass of wine.
The influx of people to the west side of town has made our area an attractive place for businesses. Nick said they were particularly interested in a place on Camp Bowie and when this store location opened up, they jumped at the opportunity. For the partners this shop seems to be equal parts business adventure and labor of love; a way to create something to help pass success on to the next generation while currently serving the needs of the area and offering them a creative outlet for their years of experience and expertise in the field. To this point, they have also included a secluded area called “The Board Room” which can be reserved for meetings, presentations, and other gatherings. It was reserved during my visit, but a peek into the room revealed outstanding amenities that are sure to impress.
According to Nick, the meat is sourced primarily in the Midwest and is all Prime & Premium Choice, trimmed to their own specifications here in-house. You can come get a taste in person between 11am an 2pm when their deli is open and serving food for lunch. Their signature sandwich is a Grilled Tenderloin Steak with special sauce, blue cheese, and lettuce on a sweet kolache bun – they have many other sandwiches, but this is The Meat Board signature.
Moving forward they are going to be hosting educational functions like cooking demonstrations and lessons on site and perhaps hosting a periodic barbecue as the weather warms up. I’m certainly looking forward to that and will be taking them up on all educational opportunities – their combined experience in the field, Aggie degrees in Animal Science, and equipment at the store should make for a top tier learning opportunity.
The Meat Board is just over a mile from the center of Como, about a 25 minute walk or 10 minute bike ride. However, the location is outstanding to serve all of west Fort Worth, being in the center of Ridglea Hills & Como at 6314 Camp Bowie right next to the Wells Fargo.
You can find them at www.themeatboard.com and at themeatboard on social media - I would highly recommend following them and signing up for their mailing list so you don't miss anything - social media icons below will direct you to them!
